Wild Whiskers and Tender Tales
Wild Whiskers and Tender Tales is a book that shares the close encounters between Australian wildlife and their dedicated carers who rescue and conserve them. It tells the story of a conservation program to save Tasmanian devils from the cruel facial tumor disease (a story involving Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik from Denmark), the only hand-raised platypus in the world, an Aboriginal community that turned from eating turtles to conserving them and much more!
Ute Wegmann produced and designed most of the book in 2011. She also took the photos. Dr Tony Helman contributed by writing the stories. The book has been distributed to all major bookstores in the country and has sold well, including to schools and libraries. It was published by Wakefield Press.
